Ring Video Doorbell 3

In addition to its connected nature, this is the only model with a built-in 1080p camera. This not only allows you to communicate with your visitors, but also promotes the security of your home.

While we already presented the Ring Video Doorbell 2, now it’s time for a brand new generation. In this new model, dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity and motion detection have been greatly improved and, for hands-free use, it is now possible to pair it with a selection of devices incorporating the personal assistant Alexa. All these services are in addition to the HD camera function, which is already very popular with users.

AVANTEK D-3B

Despite its affordable price, it is nevertheless competitive, especially on the sound level. The sound is really crystalline, which slightly improves the offered 52 tunes.

Simple but effective, this doorbell is very robust thanks to its IP55 protection. In addition to being accompanied by a lithium battery with an estimated lifespan of 3 years, it has no less than 52 different melodies, which can be played at 5 volume levels. • High-end alternative

Arlo

Compatible with an existing chime, this connected doorbell requires the purchase of a hub to be able to connect to your smartphone and/or tablet. Thanks to it, you can then engage in a remote response system.

While the Arlo brand is known in the world of indoor and outdoor cameras, this connected model unfortunately does not offer a video system. Operating from a Wi-Fi connection, it requires the use of a Hub that acts as a bridge between the doorbell and your smartphone and/or tablet. Thanks to it, you will be able to enjoy a remote response system and a silent mode, for late mornings without unexpected interruption.

Honorable Mentions

Honeywell Home Series 9

A portable chime solution. It offers eight melodies and the ability to download additional ones, as well as a silent mode with timer. What sets it apart from its competitors is its portable chime, so you can place it wherever you want. The disadvantages observed by users, however, led us not to include it in the main selection: it requires frequent battery changes, and you have to hold down the doorbell button for several seconds to ensure that it works properly.

How to choose an wireless doorbell?

The wireless doorbell can be very useful to temporarily replace a broken doorbell or to become the main instrument, if you do not want to engage in expensive electrical work.

Because it comes in many different forms and prices, we have listed the few major criteria to pay attention to when you want to acquire one:

The push button and the chime: they are the two parts necessary for the proper functioning of the doorbell. The push button, or call box, is placed outside near your door, while the chime, or receiver, is inside. The box can usually be connected to several receivers, as long as they are placed in separate rooms.

Waterproofing and resistance: the button, located outside the house, must of course be weatherproof. So, always check that the brand ensures resistance to water, dust and a wide temperature variation. But ideally, place your doorbell as far away from weather variations as possible.

The range: most models now have a range that can easily reach 400 m. However, this figure must be qualified since the environment and the surrounding architecture can considerably hamper the proper functioning of your wireless doorbell.

Power supply: this is an important criterion, since the doorbell is not directly connected to the mains. It usually runs on batteries, but can sometimes be equipped with a rechargeable battery.

Ease of installation: make sure the installation is designed so that you can take care of it yourself. Most models offer two options: either you opt for double-sided tape, which is practical but not as strong, or for the traditional plugs and screws.

The features: most of the devices have several dozen melodies and some volume controls. In the same way, some are equipped with a memory function, which records your last choices and/or a light function, interesting for the hearing impaired. As for the most efficient models, they sometimes offer a camera function that allows you to see your visitors (we have dedicated a comparison to these). Connectivity: like speakers, thermostats and light bulbs, some doorbells have gone online. If they are more expensive, it’s because they allow you to manage visitors at the door by talking to them (and sometimes even seeing them) from your smartphone and/or tablet.  Other models also offer pairing with devices that have the virtual personal assistant Alexa.
